Northumbrian Winds

m.facebook.com/Northumbrian.Winds/

Northumbrian Winds first met in January 2023, when Andy Taylor our conductor brought together a group of musicians from across the North East of England. The intention was to create a project band for a German tour in September 2023, meeting on a monthly basis. The highlight of that tour was to play in Köln Cathedral.
Frienships were born and working with musicians from Germany and Switzerland was indeed proof that Music Connects. The project, as a whole, was a great success and the decision was made that this was far too great an opportunity to have a limited life and to continue with the same successful formula. The highlight of 2024 was playing at Hexham Abbey.
In October 2025, Northumbrian Wind will return to Germany for a further tour.

Established in 1994 after an experimental rehearsal and debut concert in Ilford proved successful, the Salvation Army Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SASWE) was born. It came about and is still running because of a desire by Salvationist woodwind instrumentalists to perform in a Salvation Army environment.

Members of SASWE are a mixture of Salvation Army members and friends from other Christian denominations. The group is organised by Andrew Mackereth, Duncan Hall and Pam Murdoch. Members travel from all over the United Kingdom to attend a SASWE event, from Clydebank in Scotland, Worthing on the South Coast of England, and Pentre in South Wales and all points in between. Some round trips can be 1000+ miles
